Who we are
The Grupo de Investigação em Ginecologia Oncológica da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (GIGO FMRP USP) — the Gynecologic Oncology Research Group at the Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of São Paulo (translation; the official English name is pending) — is a research group affiliated with the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of FMRP-USP. Its record in the CNPq research-group directory (mirror: dgp.cnpq.br/dgp/espelhogrupo/8256005562552847) is being completed.
History
Professor Francisco José Candido dos Reis, PhD, built his research trajectory in gynecologic oncology over many years, and the group grew out of it. In 2026, GIGO was formally registered in the CNPq research-group directory, with organization coordinated by the professor and Taynara Louisi Pilger.
Mission
The Gynecologic Oncology Research Group develops research to expand knowledge on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, prehabilitation and rehabilitation of gynecologic neoplasms, integrating clinical, translational, epidemiological and health-services research. Its activities contribute to identifying biomarkers, evaluating new diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitation strategies, refining surgical techniques, and generating evidence for precision medicine and evidence-based clinical practice. The group promotes the training of qualified human resources, strengthens national and international collaborations, and fosters multicenter studies. The expected outcomes are to impact the quality of care, inform public policy decisions, and contribute to reducing morbidity and mortality while improving the quality of life of women with gynecologic cancer.
Training and collaboration
The group welcomes undergraduate research (iniciação científica), master’s and doctoral students, as well as researchers interested in joining beyond the formal graduate program. National and international collaborations and multicenter studies are part of the group’s proposal.
